Here Sr. Janet Schaeffler offers catechists creative (and fun) ways to focus on Catholic Social Teaching with those they teach (and their parents). She assures them that this is not something difficult and mysterious, but rather a way of life
we are called to live daily. Through it, she says,
catechists are responding to the mandate to serve
others and to develop relationships with people whose
life experiences differ from their own. She says it is a
way of living their baptism as disciples of Jesus. And,
she describes all this from A to Z, quite literally.

The Paschal Mystery (Christ's life, death, and Resurrection), and our participation in all of it, is so real, so rich, and so multi-faceted that "one look/one picture" of it will never suffice. Thus, during the year, we look at it, experience it, from many viewpoints and various angles.
As Catholics, we celebrate and live the liturgical year through the myriad feasts and seasons. As catechists, we have the awesome privilege of walking with children/youth and their families through that liturgical year, exploring its meanings and sharing those with others.

Being a confirmation sponsor is not just a one-time thing: it is not just a ceremonial role. It is a significant, critical relationship in the life of this young person--for the rest of his or her life.
Candidates for confirmation see their sponsor as a friend, a witness, and a guide.
Catholic Know-How: How to Be a Confirmation Sponsor explains the sacramental role, gives a short review of the Sacraments and Confirmation, gives hints on being a sponsor, gives top five things to do as a sponsor prepares for the celebration of confirmation, suggests gifts for confirmation, and more!

Confirmation is a celebration of the ongoing power of the already-present Holy Spirit in our lives, the Spirit first received in Baptism. Confirmation deepens and intensifies the gifts of the Spirit.

This booklet is not just about the moment of Baptism, because Baptism is not just about one moment. Baptism is a lifetime sacrament. It happens only once (it cannot be repeated) -- but it is about the rest of our lives. What we do and say in those few moments is lived each day for the rest of our lives.
For the first years of your child's life, yours will be the most important influence in his/her understanding of life as a follower of Jesus and life as a member of the Catholic Church. At Baptism your child is a Christian, but your child becomes a Christian as the years unfold. What a challenge, but what a privileged responsibility you have in that!
